Guidelines on COVID-19 for the continuity of economic activities

On October 10th, 2022, the Ministry of Health, with the work of the New Normal Committee and IMSS, issued a "Joint Release" in which they inform the basic preventive measures in the current context of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The release can be consulted at https://coronavirus.gob.mx

The purpose of the Guidelines is the promotion of health in companies, as well as to establish general measures that workplaces can implement with small actions focusing on reducing the spread. These actions include, among other, observing a healthy distance, providing dispensers with alcohol-based solutions, ensuring the good condition of toilets and even the use of facemasks in enclosed places with poor ventilation.

The application of COVID-19 tests in workplaces is recommended; however, testing should not become mandatory for the return to work of an employee. This is because companies must have in place a protection policy for workers in which the return to work is not conditioned to testing paid by the worker. In that same regard, vaccination is considered a complement to other preventive actions, therefore it should not be a factor to prevent people from performing their labor activities.

Finally, the Guidelines recommend the designation of a committee or person responsible for the correct implementation, follow-up, and supervision of measures for the new normal. That person should be informed and updated with the indications issued by the Federal health authority.
